Parenting Education
Parents work with educators at home and school to strengthen their skills as their child’s first teacher.  Parents also attend monthly workshops for this same purpose.  A video series called Padres Activos de Hoy has been an effective starting point for programs on discipline and communication techniques.  Discussions of child development and parenting strategies also take place during home visits.
Parenting workshops cover topics such as:
Importance of Early Reading/Building Communication and Verbal Skills
School Involvement
Family Day at the Library
Communicating with Your Children
Discipline: The Use of Consequences
Strategies for Family TV Viewing
Child Safety/Stranger Danger
Getting to Know U.S. Schools:  Communication Skills for Parents is an ESL curriculum developed by Project MAX staff to help parents understand what schools expect of them and learn the English they need to communicate with their child’s school.
