Poetry
Students in Princeville created biopoems during one of their activities. Writing biopoems is a fun way to introduce students to writing their own poetry. Try it with your students!
The poems are available in Adobe Acrobat Format - Click Here
Painting with Plants
The parents read age-appropriate books to their children and then painted with various flowers. Parents were given reading tips and ideas on how to expand the activity. One idea was to take nature walks and have discussions with their children as they picked different flowers and plants to use for their painting activity. Discussions were about the different sizes and colors of plants; how seasons affect plant growth; and the process of plant growth.
October 2004 PACT Workshop
The last workshop of the season. There were various educational games for the children. The infants/toddlers (all walking) had a race. Parents had to ask them to bring blocks from the other side of the room. Then the parents helped the child stack them. The first to stack up to six blocks won!
The Pre-K-Kinder had a scavenger hunt. Parents had to follow directions and help the children find objects that resembled a certain shape. The school-age children had to complete an obstacle course. First they solved a math problem, then put together a sentence, then wrote it on the chalkboard, and then had to put together 14 triangle pieces together to form an "X".
We ended the workshop with a piñata and awarded children with certificates of participation and gift bags. The gifts were purchased by Leaps and Bounds Day Care for all families in Migrant Head Start and Bright Beginnings.
