Success Stories
Verónica is an eight-year-old who is struggling in her studies. María, the home visitor, has been working really hard on spelling with Verónica. On 7-14-04 María went to Verónica’s house for her home visit and gave her thirty words. Verónica spelled twenty-eight out of the thirty words correctly! This lets María know that Verónica is doing the homework that she leaves for her. María is very proud of Verónica and gave her a surprise bag of goodies for doing a job well done. Way to go Verónica!
María, home visitor for Isaac, reported that all the kindergartners at Blackstone School in Mendota, including Isaac, had been tested. Isaac earned the highest score out of all the children in his class. Isabelle, Isaac’s mother, told María how proud of Isaac she was. She thanked Bright Beginnings for working with him because she knew that was the reason he scored so high. Bright Beginnings’ staff created a certificate and gave it to Isaac for doing such a great job.
Erica is a four year old child that María works with on a weekly basis. Because Erica did not know any of her colors, María and Erica’s mother worked very hard to teach her the names associated with the colors. Finally, it was time for a test. Erica got all of the answers correct! Hooray for Erica and keep up the good work!
Irma has been attending ESL classes on a regular basis. She set many goals for herself and accomplished many of them. One goal was to learn how to fill out a job application correctly and by herself. When Irma felt confident, she did go out and successfully apply for a job on her own. Irma is currently working on filling out a blank check correctly. In addition, she is working on her parenting skills with the goal of making her children take responsibility for cleaning their own rooms. Irma has attended several workshops on positive parenting through Bright Beginnings and says this has helped her a lot with her children. Now when she asks them to clean their rooms they say, “Yes, Mom, in a minute.”
