Martha Ferguson
Student Services Specialist
As a Student Services Specialist, Martha is responsible for:
Facilitating family literacy services to migrant families;
Supervising local home visits;
Providing technical support to home visitors;
Identifying families eligible for Project MAX, and
Facilitating the delivery of educational services to families.
Prior to working with Project MAX, Martha was an AmeriCorps Promise Fellow for the Illinois Coalition for Community Services. She dedicated a year of service to the local communities of Anna and Cobden. In Anna, Martha worked on developing a recycling project with youth and in Cobden she created an after school activity for upper elementary students. In addition, she designed and painted a mural for the Illinois Migrant Council’s Technology Learning Center.
From 1999 – 2003, Martha was responsible for the overall management of Winghill Vineyard and Winery, Inc. in Cobden. Her duties included financial management planning, supervision of staff, marketing strategies and event planning. She also designed the company logos, wine labels and promotional items.
Martha obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, Georgia and a Master of Fine Arts from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. She also has certificates from the American Heart Association and American Red Cross in Basic Life Support, C.P.R. and First Aid.
Among the many awards and honors that Martha has received, the most recent were from McDonald’s Corporation in 2002 where she organized and participated in the design and execution of two murals, and from the White House in 2000 where she was one of four Illinois artists selected to create an original ornament for the Blue Room Christmas tree.
