Adult Education Service Coordinator

As Adult Education Services Coordinator for Project MAX, Barbara’s duties include:

Supervising local site Home Visitors, Family Education Specialists and Adult Instructors
Providing training and technical support to Adult Instructors project-wide and to local staff
Coordinating adult assessments, providing implementation training and technical support to Family Education Specialists and Adult Instructors
Revising adult education curriculum and resource material and making recommendations for project adoption or adaptation
Facilitating delivery of educational services to enrolled families, including early childhood education, parenting education and adult education
Coordinating service delivery with Migrant Education, Migrant Head Start, local community colleges and other agencies providing adult and family services
Providing in-home and center-based adult and parenting education services for participating families
Assisting in ordering and dissemination of adult and parenting educational materials
Providing on-going feedback/recommendations to Project MAX Coordinator for project improvement
Prior to joining the Illinois Migrant Council, Barbara worked as a teacher at the Notre Dame High School in St. Louis. There she taught French for four years. As an ESL teacher at both the Westchester Elementary and Middle Schools and at the B.J. Ward Middle School, Barbara was responsible for beginning the districts first ESL program. Most recently, she has been a member of the Adjunct Faculty: Adult ESL at Joliet Junior College. There she helped adult students gain necessary skill for employment and connected students with agencies and programs able to assist in their career development.
Barbara has a Bachelor’s degree in French and Education, magna cum laude, from the University of Dayton, Ohio.
