Maria Linares
Family Education Specialist

As a Family Education Specialist for Project MAX, Maria is responsible for:
Facilitating and providing family literacy services to migrant families
Supervising local home visits
Providing training and technical support to home visitors
Identifying families eligible for Project MAX and
Facilitating the delivery of educational services to families.
Prior to joining the Illinois Migrant Council, María was a community worker for the University of Illinois. In this capacity, she implemented the Illinois Extension Service's Family Nutrition Program. She was responsible for scheduling and conducting education programs on basic nutrition, food safety and budgeting. She was also in charge of record keeping, coordination with local food stamp offices and other community agencies. María has been a Migrant Head Start director, English/Spanish instructor for migrant families, and a counselor with extensive experience in the areas of job training, rehabilitation (disabilities), and addictions (alcohol/other drugs).
María has an Associates in Science in Business and a Bachelor of Science degree in Science in Business - Finance with several courses towards her Master's degree. June 2003 will mark María's 30th anniversary of working with migrant families.
