Adult Education
Adults have the opportunity to improve their English and education skills by participating in classes which meet at the local library, school, or in a home.  Parents can study English as a Second Language (ESL), or attend classes for GED preparation, basic education, high school credit, or citizenship preparation.  By advancing their education, parents can better assist their children with homework, read to them more often, and demonstrate the importance of education through their example.
The ESL classes use a textbook called Crossroads as a basis.   In addition, they use Getting to Know U.S. Schools:  Communication Skills for Parents, an ESL curriculum developed by Project MAX staff to help parents to understand the school’s expectations and to learn the English they need to communicate with their child’s school.  It teaches necessary skills, such as how to read a report card and write a note to the teacher.
